Congratulations to
Grandmaster Hyeon Kon Lee of H.K. Lee Academy of Taekwondo in Herndon, VA has just been awarded with the prestigious rank of 9th Dan Black by the World Taekwondo Federation. The rank is held by only a handful of Grandmasters throughout the world. Grandmaster Lee’s achievement is even more noteworthy considering the unfortunate health problems he has been forced to deal with in recent years. Only a year after a quadruple bypass surgery, Grandmaster Lee suffered a stroke. Through unwavering dedication to Taekwondo and his tireless efforts to persevere over the greatest of challenges, Grandmaster Lee overcame these health problems to attain the highest rank possible in the world of Taekwondo. His dedication to Taekwondo perseverance in the face of adversity is truly inspiring and something from which we should all try to learn.
Also, coinciding with Grandmaster Lee’s historic achievement, he has been appointed to the International Advisory Committee by the President of Kukkiwon, the Headquarters of the World Taekwondo Federation. This is the first year of the committee’s establishment, and fewer than fifty people world-wide have been chosen to serve on the prestigious committee. The International Advisory Committee is tentatively responsible for advising on curriculum development and world-wide unification of Taekwondo, and also plans to implement an instructor qualification and certification program.
