"2010 National Capital Open Information TBA"

The 2009 National Capital Open Taekwondo Championship was a huge success! Without the generous help of our volunteers, the event would never even have gotten off the ground, so I wanted to make sure everybody knew how valued and aprreciated your help really was. Linda Jones, who is the director of student activities at South Lakes High School commented that she has never seen an event so well-organized and staffed with so many capable volunteers, and was thoroughly impressed. Likewise, Cheri Hostetler, the President of the South Lakes High School Booster Club, was impressed with everyone's enthusiasm and the sheer number of volunteers we had. It was very important to make a good first impression on the representatives from South Lakes High School; they are both already looking forward to next year's event. Thank you to the athletes who joined us this year; we are looking forward on joining us next year too.

Again this year, we are requesting sponsors for the Championship to help us continue to increase the quality of the championship. We very much appreciate last year’s sponsors’ generous sponsorships and humbly request that our returning sponsors contribute again and that other organizations also consider sponsorship of this event.
The attached information describes various levels of sponsorship. Please review this information; if you have any questions, please call my championship coordinator, J.C. Thomas, at (703) 774-5186.

Thank you for all your support.

Dear Grandmasters, Masters and Instructors,

I am pleased to invite you to the 2009 National Capitol Open TaeKwon Championship
on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m at South Lake HS,
11400 South Lakes Dr., Reston, Va., 20191

We are all looking forward to this event, to seeing all of you there and once again working closely together to bring greater honor to the art of TaeKwonDo. I am confident we will once again enjoy the special unity of a true TaeKwonDo family that this championship is known for. I thank you for your past support and ask for your help and participation to ensure another successful championship.

I hope you and your students are as excited about this year's championship as I am. I earnestly request that you will continue to educate your students so that they will not be concerned just with winning a trophy or medal. Please continue to guide them to discover that they are, first of all, competing within themselves to further improve their knowledge.

Attending the right kinds of championships, such as the one we are hosting, is important for the growth of TaeKwonDo students. The presence of the students from other schools helps everyone to improve beyond everyday class situations and gives everyone a unique opportunity to express themselves to others.

So, although we compete together, more importantly we also come together in a spirit of helping each other to grow physically, mentally and morally through participation in this kind of championship. Therefore, in addition to the regular awards, as I have done in previous years, I will also give out many special awards to the competitors from each rank who demonstrate this spirit If you feel any of your competitors deserve special recognition, please let me know at least two weeks prior to the championship so I can prepare a special award for him or her.

In the same spirit, all decisions will be final and no arguing with officials will be tolerated at this championship. Let's all work together to encourage our students' improvement, and share our discipline and TaeKwonDo spirit with each other as well as with the public.

If you have any questions or need special assistance, please do not hesitate to call us at (703) 437-5111.

Sincerely,

Grandmaster Hyeon Kon Lee
Championship Director
